Libraries are not just about books. Libraries are learning centers, as well as local and state wide archives. The Greensburg-Hempfield Library caters to children who do not have access to computers or internet in the home. For those less fortunate children, the library ensures the availability of such technology, and also that the learning experience can be equal for all. Do those who oppose the Greensburg-Hempfield Library understand that this area’s vital history is archived and stored there? Those who feel that the internet has rendered libraries obsolete fail to understand that information gathered from internet research is mostly flawed, consisting of multiple encyclopedia entries and opinions blogged by just about anyone who decides to write. Today, anyone can write or blog about any topic, which leads to a plethora of misinformation, opinions, and inaccuracies. Libraries are filled with factual information published by substantiated authors and researchers. The Greensburg-Hempfield Library is a non-profit organization that is vital to Greensburg history. It is an asset that must be preserved for future generations. Voting “Yes” on Tuesday, November 7, will not only save the GH Library, but local history, while ensuring that learning can take place outside of the limited classroom expereince.
